「そのため、・・・という問題がある」の訳し方

 

日本語明細書の【発明の概要】欄でよく使われる「そのため、・・・という問題（課題）がある（が生じる）」はどう訳されているでしょうか。

 

失礼ながら、私は「という問題がある」という表現は冗長で不要と感じており、また”thus, there is a problem that …”のように訳すのはいかにも日本語の直訳という印象を受けます。また以前あるセミナーで米国弁理士の方が米国出願では【発明の概要】欄に「問題」に相当する語句は記載しないと言われていたことがありました。これまで米国企業の明細書を読んできた中でも"a problem that …"という表現を見た記憶がありません。

 

そのため、私は予め得意先に「問題」の訳出の省略を了承していただくか、こちらの判断で省略してその旨を訳注に記載するようにしています。他方、「問題」の訳出を望まれる得意先もおられます。その場合は、”this lead to a (the) problem that …” 又は“this results in a (the) problem that …”と訳しています。

 

「その場合、同一位置で撮影した画像であっても、カメラ毎にフレーム番号が異なる。このため、各カメラの撮影動画を再生する場合、同一位置が異なるタイミングで再生されるという問題がある」（特許7100863）

“In this case, images captured by the cameras at the same position are given different frame numbers.  This leads to a problem that when playing the moving images captured by the cameras, the same position is played at different timings.”

 

「錠剤中の漢方エキス末の含有量を高めると、相対的に賦形剤の含有量が少なくなり、その結果、錠剤の硬度が低下するという問題がある」(特開2022-105650)

“When the Chinese herbal extract powder content of the tablets is increased, the excipient content is reduced.  This results in a problem that tablet hardness is reduced.”

 

「液晶表示装置の動画表示において、液晶分子自体の応答が遅いため、残像が生じる、または動画のぼけが生じるという問題がある」（特開2022-105518）

“During display of video on a liquid crystal display, the liquid crystal molecules themselves respond slowly.  This results in a problem that an afterimage occurs or the video is blurred.”

 

「音声対話装置は、マイクを用いて、話者の声だけでなく話者の声以外の音も集音してしまう。このため、音声対話装置は、単純に入力音声の音量に応じた応答音声の音量を設定することができたとしても音声認識の精度を向上することが難しいという問題がある」（特開2022-105372）
“The voice interaction apparatus collects not only a voice of the speaker but also a voice other than the voice of the speaker.  This lead to a problem that it is difficult to improve the voice recognition accuracy of the voice interaction apparatus even if the volume of a response voice can simply be set in accordance with the volume of the input voice.”
