・無生物主語を使った簡潔な訳し方

 

背景技術や発明の効果などの説明で、「～するには～する必要がある」「～装置（又は方法）においては～するのが困難である」「これにより～は～できなくなる」という表現がよく使われます。

これらは無生物主語を用いることで簡潔で読みやすい英文になります。

 

・「～するには～する必要がある」の「するには」には動名詞又は名詞を、「する必要がある」には　”requires”を使います。

 

「見守り対象者の異変を早期に検知するには、見守り対象者の平時の生活パターンを監視する必要がある」（特許第6489536号）

“Detecting an abnormality in a person to be watched requires monitoring the usual life pattern of the person.”

 

「高性能の濾材を得るためには平均繊維径の細かい極細ガラス繊維を配合する必要がある」（WO2010122999A1）

“Obtaining a high-performance filter medium requires formulating ultra-thin glass fibers having a small average diameter.”

「積層セラミックキャパシタの小型化及び高容量化を達成するために、誘電体層及び内部電極の厚さを薄くして積層数を増やす必要がある」（特開2021-168413）

"Size reduction and capacity enhancement of a multilayer ceramic capacitor require increasing the number of layers by reducing the thickness of the dielectric layer and internal electrode."

 

・「装置（又は方法）においては～するのが困難である」は装置（又は方法）を主語にし「が困難である」には”have difficulty in”を使います。

 

「一般的なラジカル重合法では一部の重合開始基から分子量の大きな側鎖が生成してしまい、高密度な側鎖を形成させることが困難な場合がある」（WO2013/105394 A1）

“A typical radical polymerization method may cause formation of side chains having a large molecular weight from some polymerization initiation groups and thus have difficulty in forming dense side chains.”

 

「これらの機能を果たす大半のＣＰＡ装置は、一般に構造が複雑であり、初期位置と最終位置の間で操作するのが比較的困難な場合がある」（特許6601924）

“Most of CPA apparatuses having these functions generally have a complicated structure and may have relative difficulty in being operated between the initial position and final position.”

「誘電体バリア放電ランプに封入された発光ガスの種類によっては、一度消灯すると、再び点灯するのが困難な場合がある」（特許第6954440号）

“A dielectric barrier discharge lamp may have difficulty in being turned on again once turned off, depending on the type of luminous gas sealed in the lamp.”

 

・「これにより～は～できなくなる」の「これにより」は”this”とし「～は～できなくなる」は”prevent～from～ing”とします。

 

「この機密利用サービスにアクセス権を設けてもよく、これによりアクセス権を持たないユーザは、機密利用サービスを利用できなくなる」（特開2021-18036）

“A right to access a confidentiality use service may be set.  This prevents a user with no access right from using a confidentiality use service.”

 

「内装体側凹凸部14と外装体側凹凸部23との間隔にピン31が介装されることにより、外装体12はその中心線に沿って内装体11に移動することができなくなる」（WO2015129174A1）

 “The pin 13 is interposed between the interior body-side uneven portion 14 and exterior body-side uneven portion 23.  This prevents the exterior body 12 from moving to the interior body 11 along the center line thereof.”

「この構成によれば、解除操作部は操作レバーのオン操作で操作ができなくなる」（特開2021-190400）

"This configuration prevents the release operation unit from being operated once the operation lever is turned on."
